It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Joann Smarr Hatfield, who left this world peacefully on Sunday, July 20th, 2025, at 4:30 PM, surrounded by loved ones.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Joann lived a life marked by selflessness, strength, and quiet grace. She gave so much of herself to others — always putting family first and never hesitating to lend a hand or a kind word. Her warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joann found her greatest joy in the company of her family. She loved being surrounded by those she loved, always making time to listen, laugh, and lift others up. She spent countless peaceful hours reading, and rarely missed an episode of Blue Bloods, her favorite show.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hatfield, and her son, Steven Hatfield.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin Hatfield and June Murphy, and by her grandchildren, Mark Hatfield, Samantha Newton, Justin Murphy, John Green, and Elizabeth Lingg Colatosti, who will carry forward her memory and the love she so freely gave.
A service to honor her life will be held on Monday, July 28th, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Annandale United Methodist Church. All who knew her are welcome to attend and celebrate a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a small act of kindness in her memory — just as she did so often for others.

Aunt Joanne was one of the most beautiful souls I have ever known. I will never forget all she did for me in life and we all will miss her so much. There is no doubt that Aunt Joann is a precious angel and with the family and the people she loved so dear. I will miss her so much and we will never forget her, her love and kindness. Gina Smarr
