Dalton Leroy Blevins (Dal)
Dalton Leroy Blevins (Dal), devoted father, grandfather, and friend, was born on May 28, 1941, in Washington, D.C., to Worth and Kathleen Blevins. He was predeceased by his brother, Ray Thomas, in 1964. Raised in Loudoun County, Virginia, Dal graduated from Loudoun County High School in 1960.
Dal married Marie Peyton shortly after high school, and together they built a life full of love, raising their daughter, Brenda Marie. After Marie’s passing in 1996, Dal’s love and dedication to his family only grew. He took great pride in his role as “Gramps” and was a steady presence in the lives of his four grandchildren—Evan, Noah, Zachary, and his “sweet baby girl,” Hannah. For 13 years, Dal was the primary caregiver for Zachary and Hannah, making sure they were well taken care of every day. Each morning, Dal welcomed them into his home, saw them safely off to school, and spent the day with them until Brenda and Harry finished work. His home was their safe haven, filled with love and patience. In addition to this, Dal also enjoyed countless summers with Evan and Noah, often having them over in between camps and other activities. His time with his grandchildren was a cherished part of his life, and he loved every moment of it.
Dal worked for the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Education for 34 years, retiring in 1994. He spent the following years in Vienna, Virginia, where he was an active member of his church. Dal served on the Board of Trustees, sang in the choir, and was deeply involved in the church’s Ambassadors for Christ Sunday school class, a group that brought him great joy and purpose. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he took pride in being part of a community that shared his values and commitment to serving others.
Dal was also passionate about his home and yard, spending countless hours picking up sticks, trimming branches, and carefully tending to his gardens. He loved the outdoors and took great pride in creating a beautiful, peaceful space around his home.
Known for his kind heart, thoughtfulness, and unwavering devotion to his family, Dal was a steady presence in the lives of all who knew him. His quiet strength, his hard work, and his love for others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, Gramps’ legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.

Dal was a very kind, compassionate man who loved his family deeply. As a strong Christian, Dal was the example of a Godly father and grandfather to all. Dal was always warm to me and my son, Jimmy. He will be greatly missed and my heart goes out to his family with my sincerest condolences.
So sad to know of the homegoing to our Father in heaven of our dear Bro. Dal knowing we’ll never get another opportunity to hug and fellowship with him and yet we praise our loving Lord for we know he’s in His very presence this very moment surrounded with eternal peace and joy unspeakable. We send off our beloved Bro. Dal with peace and rejoicing in our hearts for by the blood of our Lord Jesus on the cross and His glorious resurrection, death forever lost its sting. Our Lord Jesus promised life everlasting in His presence forevermore. Alleluiah! how wonderful it is when we finally come face to face in the presence of our Lord with all our beloved departed families there to meet us and be with us for all eternity. Our family therefore pray that the Holy Spirit brings comfort and peace to Bro. Dal’s family’s grieving hearts in the knowledge that our Lord Jesus gave us assurance that He went ahead of us to prepare a place for each one of us and so in this we could find peace and healing of our spirits when He calls us back home. Our family are with you and your whole family in prayer in Christ.
Dal was a wonderful man. I am so very grateful that I had the privilege of knowing him. He was always gracious and warm and gave great hugs. Dal was truly a loving, caring, and devoted Dad, Gramps, and friend. I am blessed that he was a part of my life. I know he will be missed by all that loved him. XOXO
Joy weaves with sadness as our congregation pays respect to Brother Dal Blevins, a prince of a man, kind, gentle, devoted, a dear brother in Christ. He is missed, but countless special memories remain to comfort each of us and especially his family. Following the example of his Lord Jesus, Brother Dal displayed a sacrificial love to both family and friends, but most of all to his cherished wife. Many of us recall his devotion and care for Sister Marie, a devotion which continued to those who call him “Gramps.” In Proverbs we read, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly (Proverbs 18:24a).” Brother Dal leaves many friends to mourn his passing; he showed himself friendly to all!
May our loving Heavenly Father, the God of all comfort, continue to comfort each of Brother Dal’s family is our prayer!
On behalf of the congregation of the Dunn Loring Community Church of God,
Pastor Glenn Dryden
John 11:25-26 (NASB)
25 [Jesus said] “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4 (NASB)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Dal was a wonderful neighbor. When we moved in he welcomed us with open arms and was always around to inform of us something going on in the neighborhood. We always enjoy chatting with him at all times of the day and seeing the dedication to his home. He was a kind, friendly person who will be sorely missed. We will miss you Dal!
